It’s hot and it’s going to get hotter.
I work as a therapist in Ireland, and the summers are always slower for my business. Because when the sun is shining people often feel better, about themselves and life. I don’t fret about it anymore, as I understand this cycle. I now embrace the summer months. This is my first summer in my new home and garden and I’m currently enjoying working less, galivanting and taking my sweet, slow time to do lovely little things more.
This morning I finished my rice Krispies and decided to doodle and draw on the box. It was fun, it was silly, it was lovely and this is what I think we need to do more in the world. Doing simple things for simple reasons and being playful, childlike and creative is a luxury, all I needed was some cardboard and pens.
In my new home, I have my dogs and share my teenage kids with their father. I have always loved children playing in the garden. In my old house, when my children were much younger, I loved having children from all over the neighbourhood in the house to play games and have fun. One of the best things about my new home is that I can hear children playing outside a lot. My home is in a residential area and I am surrounded by young families. And they have started calling at my house to play with the dogs and me. It is great craic (word for fun in Ireland) and I feel blessed that they are doing it and the dogs love it too.
I adore the sound of children playing. It is good for the soul and lovely to hear, and I really enjoy them playing in my garden and running through the place having fun. The way they create opportunities to play and spend their time makes me smile and even better, it makes me feel young again. To bring joy, creates more joy.
I think as adults we have a lot to relearn about being playful and enjoying the simple things in life. Spending time with children reminds me to be less serious and creative. I am a firm believer that the world needs us all to be creative- in a simple, playful, innocent and fun way.
This little blog is your gentle reminder to draw on old rise krispie boxes, be playful, learn from children and enjoy the simple things in life. It’s good for you and it is good for the planet, as it will help you to be more content and happy with life.
Keep it simple- doodle, scribble, play when you can and then repeat. This is not frivolous or silly, this is necessity. No good doodler or playful scribbler or hilarious silly billy ever started a war or became an oil company CEO. Think about it…
Get to work climate child and have fun while you are at it.
