Have you ever wanted to make the world a better place? If so, then there is a good chance that that is exactly what you are supposed to be doing. I have always heard that whisper from an early age. I always felt it but many of my attempts to do it were either laughable, misunderstood, badly timed or brushed away, but in the last decade there has been a shift (I’m 48 years old).
I believe that we must change the way we see things, the way we do things, our beliefs, our thought patterns and the way we present ourselves to the world, if we want a better world for all. We must own our limitations and value our strengths, we must embrace our true authenticity and stride out and be the change we want to see in the world.
I have come to realise that my main motivation for changing and living this way began out of fear. I was scared of the future. I was scared when I considered life and why we are here and what happens if we waste our life and our potential. I was scared because in my heart and my soul, I knew I was good. I knew I was brilliant and flawed and that each of us deserves to live great lives and do things that we believe in.
We are all brilliant and I see that brilliance everywhere. If you want to be reminded of your brilliance, come to me and I will tell you. Because we need every climate child to believe it. It all starts with you and ripples out.
It might not seem possible, and it might not seem real to you, but I know it is true. All you need is within you, it all starts with you.
It is like we must go into battle, that is how it feels and that is why I used to be scared. But I believe our weapons should be truth, compassion, kindness, love and empathy.
I believe this battle for climate justice, must be very different to any that have gone before and hopefully when this battle is over there will be no need for anymore. Because with this battle there are no losers, we want everyone to win. This might sound crazy to you and that is OK. I have been told I have been crazy a few times in my life but let’s be honest, this world is crazy and this crazy woman/ climate child wants to help make it better.
Why do we often resist change and feel so fearful of it when it is all we can be sure of? Why do we only see the bad that might come and not the good? Why do we believe that if an old, knackered, unjust, cruel system dies we are doomed? Why do we not see things being better? If we created the old system, surely, we could create a new, better one?
I think creativity and creative thinking is where a brighter future lies. Because creativity leads to different ways of doing things and we need new ways of thinking for things to change and improve.
I think our true essence (or our soul) is to be found in creativity and if we were all to explore our creativity, we will be more in touch with who we truly are and the life we truly want to live. I watch people talk about how much they hate their jobs but still make no efforts to leave and move on and be free. This is often because they have given their lives and their power to a job they don’t want so they can afford things they don’t need to possibly remove the sting of their life choices. I have to stop myself telling people who hate their computer job but come alive around animals that their soul wants animals, why are you not helping animals? Clearly, they have a gift with animals, but I don’t because that may hurt them because many people are scared, scared of the unknown, scared of the jump, scared of the future.
I believe when you live your best life, share your talents and passions with others and do what makes you feel alive then everything else follows. The question you might want to ask yourself is-do I sometimes think there must be more to life than this? If you are thinking that I am telling you the answer is- Yes there is.
If you want to make the world a better place, start by looking at your life and how you might create a more meaningful, purposeful life where you are the best version of yourself possible. Go on climate child, do it!
