all soul

MERAKI!
Oh Meraki, what a word and what a way to live. I think pretty much everything should be done with meraki. The goal should be to conduct and live our entire life in a way that we are a walking display of meraki…
Meraki, a verb, or adverb, a Modern Greek word, derived from the Turkish “Merak” (Labor of love, to do something with pleasure), is applied to tasks, usually, creative or artistic tasks, but can be applied to any task at all. It means to do something with passion, with absolute devotion, with undivided attention.
I like the definition above but a more simple way of understanding Meraki is to think of it as doing things with love, creativity and soul.
I see many instances of it on a day-to-day basis. They are artwork, they are meals, they are nails lovingly painted, they are children dancing, they are my walks, they are poems, they are the workshops that I run, they are the unique clothes that people wear, they are gardens, they are shop displays, they are one of my favourite people singing their heart out without a care in the world (my youngest child does this in the shower and it makes my heart sing).
Meraki is true authenticity and passion. It is expression and creation. It is the work of the soul.
It is not perfection. Meraki has very little to do with perfection and the search for perfection can scare it away.
Things I do with Meraki:
My walks
My photos
My blogs
Dancing
Singing
Acting
Comedy
Conversations
Workshops
Counselling
Meraki is when you don’t hold back because you don’t have to. It is when you are your true, authentic, best self and you give yourself freely to the task at hand. Time disappears and you are purely in the moment, loving what you are doing.
I believe everyone should express themselves through their creativity and getting stuck into this precious life. Because when you start expressing yourself freely and authentically you are on a journey to living a more free and fulfilling life. It is the greatest act of spiritual resistance that exists at this time.
I believe that the climate and ecological crisis is a spirituality crisis and to reclaim the soul of the planet, first we must be deeply connected with our own. I think living lives full to the brim of meraki is the best way for all climate children to live and save our souls.
“To make living itself an art, that is the goal.” Henry Miller
