When thinking about the climate crisis, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. The scale of the problem, the number of people it impacts, and all of the obstacles involved make it feel almost impossible to imagine things improving. I hope to help people feel less daunted and scared through my words and climate child contributions.
I want to make people feel empowered and if possible, excited about the opportunities this crisis presents. That might seem absurd, but so be it.
The climate crisis is a humanitarian threat that transcends all other political and planetary emergencies. If we deal with this right, we all win. That is exciting to me.
The opportunity for radical, collective, planetary actions for our collective health excites and inspires me. I am not scared, try not to be scared climate children.
We cannot individually change our climate that much. But we can influence it and we can consider how our impact can influence and inspire others. What ripple effects can we create through our individual actions?
I believe we make change, by being change. By embodying it. I believe we can all live a good life at this time on this planet, even in the midst of climate breakdown. I truly believe that. Some people may call me deluded and that is OK. But I’m keeping that delusion, as it gives me peace, means that I love my life and helps me take actions that are good for people, place and planet. That delusion makes me a better person.
I am not in denial of the scale of the crisis. I love the planet but more importantly I love life.
To love life is to love health and to love health is to love life. It is all interconnected, and it all relates to our climate, which is heating at an alarming and life-threatening rate.
Many people have told me that they feel helpless or hopeless and that is a depressing and disempowering place to be. For me I feel neither hopeless nor helpless. I feel hope because of my desire to help.
It might seem easier to do nothing or to deny the problem, but I find it much better to accept the problem and do what I can to help solve it.
Try not to be scared climate child, this life is for living and if we don’t try and live the best life possible, then what is the point? Don’t be scared about what might happen, be inspired to do what you can to make a healthier, happier and better planet a reality,
Why not? What have we got to lose?
